Meopham and Sky Studios

Sky Studios: Lights, Camera, Action with Meopham School students
Our sixth form students from Meopham School have taken on a behind-the-scenes visit to Sky Up Academy Studios in Elstree, gaining valuable insight into the world of film and television.
The experience gave 20 of our Year 12 students studying Media and Sociology the unique opportunity to step inside Sky’s state-of-the-art studios and explore the creative process behind producing content for the screen.
Working together, our students took on real-world industry roles such as directors, editors and producers, as they developed their own ideas and created short film pitches using cutting-edge XR technology. Students worked together to film and edit three short scenes to promote a potential film pitch and learn how ideas are taken from concept to production. Another highlight of the day was a tour of the premises where many blockbuster films have been produced, including Wicked For Good and Jurassic World Rebirth. Along the tour, students got to see the screening room with high-tech surround sound as well as the sound stages where sets come to life.
Throughout the session, our students explored the journey from script to screen, building skills in storytelling, digital literacy, teamwork and presentation. The experience also encouraged students to consider different future pathways in media, film, television and the wider creative industries, whilst developing confidence in communicating and presenting their ideas in a professional setting.
Caitlin, a Year 12 student at Meopham School, said:
“Experiencing Sky Studio Elstree was an opportunity I am incredibly grateful for. Being inspired by the studio itself and the hands-on experience with creating our own film pitch, I will definitely vividly remember this thrilling day. The staff were interactive and engaging, easily building a comfortable atmosphere for both pupils and teachers. Any student given this chance should absolutely take it to explore the wide range of creative future careers in which Sky Studios has to offer.”
Ethan Roberts, Headteacher at Meopham School, said:
“We are incredibly proud to offer students opportunities that extend their learning beyond the classroom and help them explore future careers. The visit to Sky Up Academy Studios was a brilliant example of how real-world experiences can inspire ambition, develop key skills and encourage students to think boldly about their next steps.”
Emily Greenwood, Unity Lead at Meopham School, added:
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 12 Media and Sociology students to experience the film and television industry in a really practical and engaging way. Being able to step into professional studio spaces, take on industry roles and work together to create their own short films helped bring their learning to life. Experiences like this are incredibly valuable in helping students build confidence, creativity and a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them in the future.”
