Turing at Wimbledon!

Game, set and match: The Turing School students enjoy once-in-a-lifetime Wimbledon experience

Our students at The Turing School received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after securing highly sought-after tickets to this year's Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

Through The Turing School's success in the Wimbledon school ballot, a group of 8 students in Years 7-10 travelled to the world-famous tournament to enjoy a day of top-class tennis and experience one of Britain's most iconic sporting events.

Our students here were fortunate to receive tickets for Court 1, where they watched both men's and women's singles matches featuring some of the sport's biggest names. This included Taylor Fritz (Men’s number 7 in the world) and Elene Rybakina (Ladies number 2 in the world).

Alongside the tennis, our students also had the opportunity to embrace the traditions that make Wimbledon so special. They enjoyed the famous strawberries and cream, relaxed on Henman Hill to soak up the atmosphere and visited the official Wimbledon shop to pick up souvenirs from a memorable day.

This visit formed part of The Turing School's commitment to providing enriching experiences beyond the classroom, giving our students opportunities to broaden their horizons and be inspired by sport.

Sophia, student at The Turing School, said:

“For me to go to Wimbledon I think it was a once in a lifetime experience. To be able to be in the same area as some of the greatest tennis players in the world at that moment was amazing! I loved walking around the premises of the Wimbledon courts and seeing all the live action of tennis that was happening. The scenery was beautiful and I loved sitting on the Henman hill for my lunch watching amazing games of tennis on the big screens. I loved being able to experience eating the famous strawberries and cream at Wimbledon, it will be a lovely memory that I cherish for a very long time.  It was amazing to be given the opportunity to go to Wimbledon for a school trip! It was a lovely day and a lovely event to attend. My seats in the court 1 stadium were amazing with a great view.  I was able to see all of the court and enjoy the great game of tennis I was lucky to attend.”

Ben Kingston, Curriculum Lead for PE at The Turing School, said:

"For many of our students, this was a bucket-list experience to be part of one of the world's greatest sporting events. Securing tickets through the school ballot was incredibly special and gave our students the chance to see elite tennis up close while enjoying everything that makes Wimbledon such an iconic event.

"It was fantastic to watch our students immerse themselves in the experience, and they represented The Turing School brilliantly throughout the day. It is a visit they will remember for many years to come."
