Honoured Ashford Hero

Beyond the Field: The North School’s Lloyd Dehara Honoured as an Ashford Hero!
It is often said that a great teacher does more than follow a curriculum; they provide a compass for life. This year, at the Ashford Hero Awards 2026 ceremony, The Inspiring Educator Award — a prestigious accolade celebrating the mentors, coaches, and youth leaders who go the extra mile — has found a deserving recipient in our Lloyd Dehara from The North School.
The award is designed to recognise those rare individuals who spark enthusiasm and build unshakeable confidence in the next generation. It honors those who believe in a young person’s potential long before the young person might believe in it themselves. This year, the selection committee didn't just find an educator; they found a catalyst for resilience.
And the nomination for Lloyd didn't come from a standard faculty review, but from the heart of a family who saw their world transformed. A pupil at The North School had been struggling significantly with their mental health, a struggle that presented itself in poor attendance and challenges with behaviour. For many, this could have been a story of slipping through the net.
However, Lloyd refused to let that happen. Through consistent care, tailored guidance and boundless encouragement, he supported the bridge back. Today, that once struggling pupil has returned to full-time education — not just attending, but truly enjoying school once again.
Every day, Lloyd makes a tangible, positive difference in the lives of multiple young people. By fostering an environment where resilience is celebrated and setbacks are seen as a stepping stone, he isn't just teaching lessons in P.E. — he is equipping kids with healthy mindsets and attitudes.
As the winner of The Inspiring Educator Award, Lloyd Dehara represents some of the very best of the education and youth leadership community. His story serves as a valuable reminder that while some may remember the whistles and tactics from P.E. lessons, others will remember the heart of their coach.
Congratulations to Lloyd Dehara and our entire The North School community on this remarkable achievement.
