USA football scholarship

Student from The Whitstable School secures international football scholarship in the USA!

One of our Year 13 students from The Whitstable School has been awarded a four-year scholarship to study and play football at university level in the United States.

Alex secured the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity following a sustained period of strong performance, including representing the Whitstable Town FC Academy and competing regularly in National League fixtures. His development has seen him score over 70 goals from midfield across two seasons, alongside gaining experience in men’s football with Sheppey United and Sheppey Sports.

The scholarship was made possible with the support of The Whitstable School’s partnership with Football Futures, which offers students access to experienced coaching, structured training and regular competitive fixtures, alongside their academic studies.

The scholarship will see Alex begin his studies at William Penn University in Iowa from July 2026, where he will compete in the NAIA Heart of America Athletic Conference while working towards a degree in Sports Management.

Alex’s achievement reflects his personal commitment and passion for professional football, and marks the second consecutive year that one of our students from The Whitstable School has secured a football scholarship in the United States, reflecting the growing strength of the school’s football provision and the opportunities available to students through its academy pathway.

Alex said:

“I’m really proud to have secured this opportunity in the United States and grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and seeing how far I can go.”

Mr Holmes, Headteacher at The Whitstable School, said:

“We are incredibly proud to see another of our students secure an international scholarship. This reflects both Alex’s hard work and the strength of the opportunities available through our football provision. We look forward to following his journey and to continuing to support students in pursuing their ambitions.”

Josh Algar, Football Futures Director, said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for Alex and a brilliant opportunity for him to continue his development both academically and on the pitch. He has shown real commitment and consistency throughout his time with us, and we are excited to see what he will achieve in the United States.”
