Westlands Nursery goes Orange for PWS

Our children and staff at Westlands Nursery have rallied together to show support for one of their very own nursery children.

Elizabeth, aged 3, a bubbly, young girl who attends our Westlands Nursery was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a rare genetic condition that causes a wide range of physical symptoms and learning difficulties. PWS can impact individuals daily, in different ways, but those close to Elizabeth say that the condition doesn’t stop her from being a happy child, who is always full of smiles and cuddles.

To ‘Go orange for PWS’, our Westlands Nursery dedicated a week to encouraging children and staff members to wear an item of orange and raise awareness of the condition. Go Orange for PWS is a global campaign held yearly.

Sam Mitchell, Nursery Manager of Westlands Nursery said, “Elizabeth loves being sung her favourite nursery rhymes and has lots of friends here. Not many people know much about Prader Willi Syndrome or understand what it means for people who have this genetic condition, which is why it is so important to spread awareness.

“This is also a great learning opportunity for our children to understand that we may all be different, but we are all special!”

Victoria, the mother of Elizabeth added, “Elizabeth loves nursery so much. We were very apprehensive as a family, of Elizabeth starting nursery, as she has complex care needs and had only left her with her Grandparents. Our worries were put to rest by the Manager and SENCo Sam and Room Leader, Becca who are both brilliant. Elizabeth settled in so very well, with lots of support from the wonderful staff in her room and her amazing 1:1 staff member Courtney. She loves nursery so very much. I highly recommend this nursery to anyone, they go above and beyond.”
