Unleash Your Creativity at The Whitstable School: Art & Textiles Teacher Wanted

Are you a visionary educator with a passion for both the canvas and the loom? We are looking for a dynamic Art & Textiles Teacher to join our exceptionally vibrant and collaborative Visual Arts department at The Whitstable School.

At our school, the Arts are "at the heart of the school's success." We don't just teach techniques; we foster a space where students feel brave enough to experiment, fail, and ultimately create something extraordinary. If you have a "maker" mindset and a love for contemporary craft, we want you to be part of our thriving creative community.

The Role

  • In this position, you will join a highly successful department known for its outstanding outcomes and "lively yet supportive" environment. You’ll be responsible for:
  • Inspiring Minds: Delivering high-quality lessons across KS3 - 5. Our students thrive on expressing their individuality through paint, pencil, and stitch.
  • Broadening Horizons: Actively encouraging and organising department trips. We believe in learning beyond the classroom, whether it's local gallery visits in our artistic town, photography days, or international residentials.
  • Mixed Media Mastery: Teaching a broad curriculum that includes batik, machine embroidery, silk painting and weaving alongside traditional fine art disciplines like sculpture and printmaking.
  • Exhibition Excellence: Utilising our open spaces to showcase pupil-led work, celebrating the "limitless imagination" of our students with the wider community.

What We Offer

We recognise that a "loyal and competent workforce" is the key to student progress. We offer:

  • A Great CPD Offer: Professional development is "woven into our school culture." You will benefit from bespoke, cross-departmental CPD, research-engaged teaching practices, and leadership development opportunities within the Swale Academies Trust.
  • A Supportive Environment: Benefit from a centralised behavior system that allows you to focus on teaching and a team that values "care, courtesy, and consideration."
  • Wellness & Community: From "Headteacher days" for running extra-curricular clubs to regular staff gatherings and breakfast briefings, we foster a friendly, "open-door" atmosphere.

What We Are Looking For

  • A Specialist: A degree in Fine Art, Textiles, or a related field, with QTS.
  • A Collaborative Spirit: Someone who embodies our On TRACK values (Tolerance, Resilience, Achievement, Courtesy, Knowledge).
  • A Creative Innovator: An educator who stays up-to-date with contemporary artists to keep our curriculum "diverse and exciting."
