The Turing School in Eastbourne, East Sussex, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our vibrant and supportive team.

The Role:

  • As a HLTA, you will be instrumental in organising and supporting teaching and learning activities for classes, working under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher. This dynamic role involves:
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering specific learning activities to individuals, small groups, and/or whole classes, adapting activities as necessary.
  • Assessing, recording, and reporting on student development, progress, and attainment.
  • Using teaching and learning objectives to plan, evaluate, and adjust lessons/work plans within agreed supervision systems.
  • Assessing pupil needs and utilising specialist skills to support their learning.
  • Supporting pupils' social and emotional well-being.
  • Potentially providing specialist support for pupils with learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory, or physical difficulties, or those with English as an additional language, or gifted and talented pupils, or within a specific learning area.
  • Opportunities to undertake short-term cover supervision of classes.
  • Liaising with staff, relevant professionals, and external agencies to provide information about pupils.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science at grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Has a Level 2 or 3 Diploma (or equivalent) and is working at or towards professional standards for HLTA.
  • Possesses successful relevant experience of working with children of relevant age within a learning environment.
  • Demonstrates developed skills for communicating with individuals, groups, and whole classes to promote learning.
  • Has a full working knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice, legislation, and experience implementing the national curriculum.
  • Understands child development and can apply effective behaviour management policies.
  • Has a strong understanding of child safeguarding issues and a commitment to child welfare and safety.
  • Is a willing learner, a team player, shows initiative, and demonstrates commitment to the role.
